Multi-Level Bill of Materials (BOM)
The Multi-Level BOM (Bill of Materials) structure allows users to visualize the hierarchical composition of a product and the relationships between finished goods, semi-finished products, components, and raw materials.
The multi-level BOM management in iProd is also organized according to the production cycle phases, allowing components and operations to be associated with the specific process step where they are used.
What is a Multi-Level BOM used for?
The Multi-Level BOM allows users to:
- view the complete structure of a product;
- identify all components required for production;
- visualize the relationship between parent and child items;
- manage products composed of sub-assemblies;
- link materials and components to the different production cycle phases;
- support planning, production, and procurement activities.
Multi-Level BOM Structure
The structure is organized according to a hierarchical and production-oriented logic:
Level 0 – Finished Product
Represents the main (parent) item to be manufactured.
Level 1 – Sub-Assemblies and Main Components
Contains the elements directly required to build the product.
Subsequent Levels – Components and Raw Materials
Contains the elements used to manufacture the sub-assemblies.
Each element in the structure can be associated with the related production cycle phase, indicating at which stage of the manufacturing process it is used.
Example:
Product A
Phase 10 – Initial Assembly
- Group B
- Component C
Phase 20 – Final Processing
- Material D
- Group E
BOM Visualization in iProd
In iProd, the Multi-Level BOM allows users to navigate through:
- product structure levels;
- production cycle phases;
- components and quantities used in each phase.
Users can expand or collapse the different levels to display the required level of detail while maintaining a clear view of the production flow.
For each element, the following information may be available:
- item code;
- description;
- required quantity;
- unit of measure;
- hierarchical level;
- production phase of use.
Benefits
The use of the Multi-Level BOM in iProd allows users to:
- have a complete overview of the product structure;
- correctly associate materials and components with production phases;
- improve process traceability;
- simplify production management;
- reduce errors when consulting the Bill of Materials;
- simulate production requirements considering warehouse availability and start the procurement process for the required materials;
- support planning, production, and procurement activities.
